Our family has had dinner twice at Morgans. Each time the wait staff was new. So the service was not as efficient as one may like. However. The food was very good Seafood tasted fresh and the filet was cooked exactly as ordered. It does become loud as more people arrive. We would go back.

Great stop off of 70. Really good food. Atmosphere could be warmer (that includes the temperature).

YUMMY Lunch. Everyone at our table loved their sandwich choices. HOT ROAST BEEF & BRIE CROISSANT, CHICKEN CAPRESE PANINI, MONTE CRISTO, and PULLED PORK BBQ. The coffee was fresh and fragrant. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. We can't wait to go back again.

Wear earplugs! Food wasn't terrible. They need to serve the butter in a cup instead of the annoying little wrappers the butter comes on.

Love this place!! Food is great! It is a little expensive for the area but worth it for what you get.

Absolutely horrible costumer service from the hostess in her 50s.. For an "American grille" I found the menu very limited, with emphasis on seafood. Food was mediocre and way over priced.

Went here several times for different events, food is good but portions are SMALL! Very very small....last time i was there i got 1 crab cake (size of a small ice cream) and small garlic mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables (meaning, 3 1/2 slices of zucchini, 1 online sliver and 1 squash slice)..I'm NOT KIDDING My dinner alone was $19 for these portions, a coke was $2.40 for about an 8oz drink? Ridiculous....food tasted good, just portions are too small for the price.

eh. not an overly inspired menu but not the worst either. very few vegetarian selections - the wraps we ordered were a little soggy but edible. weirdish ambience - a little too dark and a little too loud. i wouldn't go out of my way to return.

This place is right down the street from where I live and its over priced and smallest portions ever. What they serve is like robbing your wallet of your hard earn money. Another thing, I do not know why people of New Market thing this place is so great. There are better places in Mt. Airy and Frederick that have far better places to eat. Therefore, New Market people try other places

Maryland style crab dip and shrimp salad - made me happy we stopped here while passing through New Market at lunch time. Looks like a great place to enjoy happy hour too. Very clean and nicely decorated. Cheerful service

As an out-of-towner, I went here on the recommendation of someone from a local winery I was doing a tasting at. We went at about 2PM on a Saturday and the restaurant was almost empty, which I thought was strange. However, we had great, quick service, and the food was great. I got the house salad with beef and the cucumber dill ranch, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The meat was high-quality, not tough or stringy, and was cooked just right. The dressing was a neat twist on regular ranch, and it blended well with all of the other flavors. My boyfriend got the Monte Cristo sandwich, and really liked it. He called it a 'lunch side of brunch' sandwich. We finished with the apple pie, which was served a la mode and was really well flavored. Overall, the lunch was delicious. It was weird that more people weren't there, though. I will say (and maybe this is because I live just outside DC) I didn't think that the prices were too high at all. It's a fairly upscale place, and the prices are right on target. I also thought the portion sizes were on target as well. I don't think I got shorted at all. Highly recommend, I'll go again!

Early weekend lunch on our way to Gaver Farm was below average. Fries were old and greasy. Perhaps the fryer was not warmed up yet. Kids silly string meal toy was a hit.. Crab cake sandwich was ok. Cow paintings were the best. Waitress was friendly.. Pricey so I was expecting better.

  • Steve G.

It is good but not amazing. If they didn't try to present themselves as amazing (price wise) i would rate it better. The bartenders are polite, i guess. Like I said if they didn't present themselves as do ( price wise ) . I kinda expect more informative description from serving staff than just a menu and an answer of " I don't know , I don't eat meat ", only because of how they try to present themselves. It's not bad , just needs to keep up with the prices. Or have comparable pricing to what you get out of the whole experience.

Excellent food. Excellent service. I highly recommend. We wanted seafood the night we found Morgan's and we came across this place purely by accident much to our delight. The seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection. We will definitely return.

The ambiance is comfortable and romantic. Service was prompt and friendly. One flaw was there were some shells in the crab cakes. The crab cakes were lump/not jumbo lump and approximately 4 oz. I thought that the food was good but didn't knock my socks off for approximately $25 an entree'. Although house wine was reasonable at $6 a glass. In my opinion the portion size(mixed grill) of the crab cake, shrimp(medium size), fish (3-4 oz), etc should be larger and of higher quality. In addition, there is a daily chef's choice offering of a starch and a vegetable. Unless you live nearby, I would not suggest going out of your way to try this restaurant.

Love the bar, and the live music on the weekends. They have catered well to us as a group in the back room too. Haven't been there for date night, or girl's night or a meal with the family, but what I have had sitting in the bar has been good. My daughter and I have gone at lunch and it's been a great fancy menu for myself and a six year old! She gets the lobster salad and I love their soups!

A group of us went out for a pre-college get together. Service and live music was excellent. Appetisers were good - asian shrimp and wings. Mains were not so good. The burgers and fish sandwich were OK. The chicken churchill was bland. The fish special, $24, grouper with a thai green curry sauce was very disappointing. The piece of grouper was excellent but the sauce, more like a thick puree, was green and was spicy but was certainly not green thai curry, and it was served oddly with mashed potato. I think the entrees are small and overpriced for what you get. You can certainly get better food at lower prices elsewhere. However if you stick to appetisers and the lower priced items on the menu the food is generally OK.

We love Morgans. The appetizers are the best. We do miss the old bay wings that they use to have on the menu. Kim the waitress is great. You should have more like her.

I am honestly surprised to see so many 3-star or above reviews. I thought the place was really lacking. It did have a nice decor and ambiance. However, the portions were very small for the asking price (so overpriced), although the food was good. My chief complaint was the service. Maybe I just got stuck with a crappy waiter, who was new. Maybe we were being ignored on purpose because we had a child in tow. However, our child was well behaved and didn't cause any problems. At the end of the meal, my server, when he finally got around to giving me my check, gave me someone else's check. I didn't catch it until after he had already charged my card. It was only a dollar difference, which is why I didn't notice it right away. AND, it wasn't until I left that I didn't realize he didn't offer me a credit receipt for running my card twice and yes I did have to contact my bank to disput the second (rather, first) charge. All in all, one of my worst restaurant experiences. I am usually a very good tipper, at least 20%, but I wanted to leave this give a penny and some words for his TIP. I didn't however, but I couldn't bring myself to give him more than 10% before tax! Something else I never do. Save your money -- go somewhere else!

Been here three times. Excellent food and atmosphere. It's a little noisy and they should do something about that, but otherwise top notch. They only serve some appetizers (lemon grass chicken potstickers) in the bar area, which is annoying. We got them to serve us in the main restaurant and they were excellent, as was the homemade raspberry chocolate bread pudding desert. The Apple Bourbon Chicken was excellent! I was somewhat less enthusiastic about the mahi mahi special with a jerk rub, broiled, because it lacked flavor.

Went here for dinner on Saturday...looked nice when we walked in. Well-decorated and the dimmed lighting gives it a nice feel. We sat in the bar area which was crowded, but the middle section with the tables wasn't that full. We had a large party, and the service was good. Started out with the artichoke and crab dip apps...they were tasty, but nothing to go berzerk over, however the asian shrimp app was fantastic! The prices are a bit high, and the portions are small. I got the shrimp caesar salad because the menu was different than what I had previously viewed online, and didnt really describe what was in the dishes. Salad was decent, shrimp was a little over-cooked. The desserts were yummy...we got the mint creme brulee and this really rich chocolate cake. House malbec was really good, bathrooms were clean, friendly atmosphere, close to home and easy to get to...I'm sure we'll come back.

Morgan's has pretty much perfected the concept of a culinary tavern. Sure, you can get a beer and a burger if you want, but the real focus here is the daily specials menu. On any given day it will be composed of a soup, a couple of appetizers and three main courses. It's solid all the time. So are the desserts. I've eaten here maybe 100 times, and I'm rarely disappointed. The appetizers in particular are noteworthy, because they're like protein-rich mini-meals, reminiscent of "small plate" dining downtown. In fact, I'm positive that I could take the items from the specials menu, serve them to you in courses at a candle-lit table at a tablecloth restaurant, and you'd rave about the meal. You just don't expect or appreciate it at a strip mall off the highway. And that's really the only problem. Because if I'm forced to find fault, it would be that the main dining room is a little too open and doesn't have an intimacy that matches the cuisine. So, I don't sit there. I grab a table in the bar area, where it's perfectly relaxing at the end of a long day.

Great service. A little on the pricey side but food is very good. Pork chops in andouille BBQ sauce were very good. My wife loves the salmon. Kids menu options and portions are fair (3 kids).

We met some old friends at Morgans for dinner last night; they had chosen the restaurant and it was our first time here. We enjoyed it. Attractively decorated -- not "busy" but not austere, dim but not "dark" lighting. Decent service. Loved the creamy chocolate martini so much I had two. For apps we had calamari and crab dip and both were good, though the crab dip needed a little more lump. Entrees: my husband had duck (good flavor but he felt the portion size was on the small side), I had the seafood grille (delicious, nice variety included crab cake, salmon, shrimp and scallops with veggies and roast potatoes; more than enough to eat), my girlfriend had the same as me, and her husband had rockfish which he said was great. We were way too full for dessert but we did sit and talk for a good 2 hours. No one seemed to mind and never rushed us. I was glad we had a booth, as the tables are sort of crowded together in an open space. Prices quite reasonable for the portions and quality. We'll return.

I was actually surprised how good the food here was. I had the Roasted Spring Hen and the wife had one of the specials, the Hanger Steak. Everything was prepared very well and tasted fresh. The food seemed to be a bit overpriced for some entries, mainly the beef, but others, like the Hen was reasonable. Our server was friendly and kept the drinks flowing. The only thing I wasn't accustom to was the daily specials on a clipboard. If I'm in the area, I would go again just being selective on what I order.

    (4)
  • Robert H.

Nothing but average here. I had high hopes when I saw it upon first entry, but then it took over 30 mins for the average food to show up. As it stands, we've been sitting here at about an hour and I'm still waiting for the bill. If I had to use an analogy, I'd say it it's a sports car look with a golf cart motor. I probably won't be back, mainly based on cost. The menu prices are much higher, but the quality of the service IR the food didn't support it. I'd give the speed another chance, but not for that cost.

  • Mary R.

Friendly neighborhood bar and grill... Great spot for lunch or to grab some apps. Reasonable prices and nice causal atmosphere. The food had some great items (the spicy shrimp app was amazing!) but then some just items were just ok (the tuna app was over cooked as well as the steak on the salad). Overall it is a good option for those in the area, but not sure I would travel out of my way to eat there.

I didn't think there were many places to dine in New Market so was very happy when we went here for some friends. The place has a good ambiance, a nice menu and wait staff was friendly. Smiles all around from the cheese plate to the steaks and berry salads. Price-wise, they are in line with what you would pay in downtown Frederick. GET THE FRIED OREOS FOR DESSERT!

Stopped by for lunch with a friend earlier this year. The salad was tasty but I was over the moon with their homemade upside down Walnut Pie, with fresh brewed Krona Coffee! First the positive, good bar and people who work there. But, this place is pretty average. It has potential but the little things like the buns for sandwiches....grocery store quality. Crab dip...awful. Crab cake was more like crab 1/2 of a crab cake. Average food above average prices.

Great atmosphere and excellent food and service, every time! The crusted shrimp appetizer is our favorite. The artichoke dip is also delicious; lots of flavor and cheese. Crab dip in the bread bowl is delicious. Dinner at the bar or bar area is cozy.

First the positive, good bar and people who work there. But, this place is pretty average. It has potential but the little things like the buns for sandwiches....grocery store quality. Crab dip...awful. Crab cake was more like crab 1/2 of a crab cake. Average food above average prices.

Burger was good but the fries were dried out. Probably my fault for going in here and ordering a burger, but I wasn't that hungry and everything seemed a bit pricey for what you're getting.

Great atmosphere and excellent food and service, every time! The crusted shrimp appetizer is our favorite. The artichoke dip is also delicious; lots of flavor and cheese. Crab dip in the bread bowl is delicious. Dinner at the bar or bar area is cozy.
